The Truth About Marijuana: Science vs. Corporate Interest
Marijuana, for millennium’s, has been a cornerstone of human history, celebrated for its medicinal and cultural significance. From priests and sages to scholars and leaders across centuries, cannabis has been revered as a natural remedy and resource. Ancient texts, cultural stories, and historical artifacts all attest to its widespread use and benefits. If marijuana were as harmful as some claim, why would it have such a prominent role in our collective past? The answer lies not in science but in the corporations that stand to lose profits from its legalization and acceptance.
The question we must ask is simple: Why is a natural plant vilified, while synthetic medications riddled with harmful side effects celebrated as “safe”? The narrative against marijuana has been carefully constructed through decades of propaganda, not by science. Hiding behind science, is the financial interests of industries that profit from its prohibition.

A 2015 systematic review found that cannabinoids are effective in managing chronic pain in adults (Journal of the American Medical Association).
The corporate veil
We have been programmed to believe that if “science” didn’t validate it, then it isn’t true. Or worse, it’s a conspiracy theory. In today’s world, science often equates to data created in a corporate lab and approved in a corporate boardroom. This model isn’t about advancing knowledge but about controlling narratives. For example, no true cures are marketed in the pharmaceutical industry—only treatments designed to manage symptoms and sustain long-term revenue streams. A cure represents a financial loss, and anything that challenges this system, like marijuana, is dismissed or demonized. Everything comes with a treatment to either prolong it, suppresses symptoms or has side effects worse than the initial condition. Often, requiring more medication to deal with symptoms from your current medication. Even more ironic, are the thousands of people who have shared their recoveries and contradicted the “scientific” data that corporations curate to mislead the public.
Studies show that cannabis use increases caloric intake by an average of 600 calories per day in patients with HIV or cancer (Appetite Journal).
The FDA approved Epidiolex (CBD) for treating epilepsy, reducing seizures by over 50% in clinical trials (The New England Journal of Medicine).
What is science?
Science, at its core, is innovative, informative, revolutionary, theorized, and open to debate. Challenges; when tested and validated, not only makes the theory stronger, but does so with the most rigorous method of testing. One even its opposition has witnessed and can confirm. Science, in its purest form, is a quest for truth and discovery. Yet, the modern iteration of science has been co-opted by corporations, turning it into a tool to validate profit-driven agendas. Corporations fund research to reinforce their interests, producing data that supports their bottom line rather than public well-being.
A 2019 study showed that 79% of participants experienced reduced anxiety after one month of CBD use (The Permanente Journal).
The science bad behind Marijuana is not an anti-science article. True science is on our side. Science intrinsically, has nothing to do with a lab, white coats and man-made chemicals. Science is organic. It’s unpredictable, sporadic, infinite and constantly evolving. Trying to define it in any single space or time, is speaking of it in past tense. All of our human discoveries are mostly natures screw-ups and discarded rough drafts. If nature was Bob Ross, it would tell us that these were just happy little mistakes. We all derived from a multitude of these evolutional mistakes, all of which fathered the concept of modern science.
A 2020 review found that CBD significantly reduced inflammation in conditions like arthritis and multiple sclerosis (Frontiers in Pharmacology).
“When you read an article of a person with cancer, bypassing chemo to change their diet and lifestyle; only to beat it… you are witnessing science.”
A 2020 study found that medical cannabis reduced symptoms of depression by 58% and anxiety by 50% (Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine).
What does science have to do with marijuana?
Marijuana is not illegal because of science; it is illegal because of politics fueled by profit motives. It challenges the billion-dollar pharmaceutical industry by offering natural relief without the high costs or harmful side effects of many medications. This is why corporate-funded “science” dismisses the testimonies of countless individuals who have experienced healing through cannabis.
These are not unsubstantiated claims. Every day, people share their journeys of overcoming illnesses by embracing natural remedies like marijuana. Yet, their experiences are ignored because they threaten the corporate status quo. Real science would investigate these stories, test these theories, and adapt to new findings. Instead, corporate interests stifle progress, silencing the voices that contradict their data.
A 2019 clinical trial revealed that cannabis improved sleep quality in 48% of participants with insomnia (Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research).
True science is dynamic, evolving, and rooted in nature. It does not operate on rigid protocols dictated by profits but thrives on exploration and debate. Nature itself is the ultimate laboratory, and marijuana, like all natural resources, is a product of this organic process. Before humans existed, nature created the foundations of every medicine we know today, including cannabis.
The current system, however, prioritizes profits over people. Instead of promoting natural remedies proven effective through millennia of use, corporate science disregards them. The result is a society where common sense and ancestral knowledge are overshadowed by synthetic solutions that often cause more harm than good.
Why would science deny testing a theory?
Science wouldn’t. But businesses standing to lose money would. Science is inviting and welcomes new ideas with open arms. Primarily because it fosters progress and accelerates technological advancements. In an ever-changing world of power, where wars and conflict are common; science should be at the forefront of our civilization. Its discoveries, ideas, and utilization are responsible for all required necessities in combat. This includes weapons, defense systems, vaccines and medications for during/after surgeries. If the recovery process is eased by marijuana and patients prefer it over medication, then it needs to be not only studied by scientist but approved. The users made themselves subjects and validated the theory already. So, what besides politics, would deny people an all-natural relief from pain?
Medicinal marijuana is FDA-approved for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). Clinical trials show a 70% effectiveness rate compared to standard treatments (Cancer Management and Research).
In conclusion
Marijuana remains a political issue, not a scientific one, science is used to hide the real culprit. Its prohibition is rooted in protecting corporate profits, not public health.
Real science is not the enemy. The true adversary is the corporate manipulation that hides behind the facade of science, distorting its purpose. Science should empower humanity, not serve as a tool for exploitation. Until we reclaim science from corporate interests, we will continue to see politics, not truth, dictating our understanding of natural remedies like marijuana.
Let us not confuse the failures of corporate science with the essence of true scientific inquiry. It’s time to challenge the systems that profit from our ignorance and embrace the natural solutions that have always been available to us. Girl Scout Cookies and Purple Haze, although both are cannabis plants, require different amounts of light, nutrients, and water, producing different yields, colors and different highs. African, European, and Asian; all humans but genetically, are wired differently according to their biology. A true science-based scientist can confirm this. Science itself can confirm this. Our corporate science would say this hasn’t been confirmed. The is the same science that says over six thousand years of medicinal usage isn’t viable enough evidence to substantiate the claims millions of boomers validate every single night, in the form of a doobie.
