A key committee in the U.S. House of Representatives has approved a bill that would block Federal Marijuana Rescheduling. The House Appropriations Committee passed the bill as part of the 2025 appropriations for Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies. This bill includes a provision that blocks the DOJ from reallocating funds to change marijuana’s classification under the Controlled Substances Act. The measure will need to be approved by the full House of Representatives and Senate, and then signed by President Biden to become law.
The Timeline:
In October 2022, President Biden called on his administration to review the federal government’s prohibition of marijuana. In August 2023, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) formally recommended rescheduling cannabis under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). This recommendation was based on a scientific review of the medicinal use of cannabis, supporting its reclassification to Schedule III.

In January, a federal review by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) concluded that marijuana is eligible for less strict classification under federal drug laws. Researchers from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found credible evidence supporting marijuana’s legitimate medical uses, meeting the criteria for rescheduling under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) .
Four months later, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) indicated its approval to move marijuana from Schedule I, which is reserved for drugs with no accepted medical value and a high potential for abuse, to Schedule III . The proposed rule to implement this change is currently in a 60-day public comment period. Although the people voted and approves this deregulation; the people who supposedly “works” for the people want to block Federal Marijuana Rescheduling. Something doesn’t add up.
The people have spoken time and time again. Yet, House Lawmakers Vote to block Federal Marijuana Rescheduling. These people are no longer qualified for elected positions.
